Well, the countdown is on. Less than 3 days until we kick off the 2008 Santa
Barbara Marathon. Registrants are encouraged to show up by 6:45am to prep. There won’t be a long line to register and we plan on starting at 7am promptly, so please try not to be late.
As we’re very ecofriendly, registrants will receive an electronic welcome package on December 27th. We will also not be supplying disposable cups, so you are highly advised to bring your own water container. There will be a protein shake station setup at miles 8 and 16. Unlike most races, we won’t provide carb stations for carb loading as we feel this leads to Type II Diabetes.
There will be bathrooms at miles 5, 14, 16, & 18. No bathrooms after mile 18, though.
Most of this year’s course runs along the Southern Santa Barbara County Coastal Bike Path. If you see the blue path on the map, that’s mainly the course. There have been a few alterations. If you get off course while running, just pick back up on the signs (above) that lead you to the Coastal Route!
We’re also contemplating the following (open to suggestions on all below):
Teaming up with Lucky Cab to provide green transportation from start to finish or vice versa. We haven’t been able to solidify anything yet, but keep your fingers crossed! If all else fails, we have volunteers with ecofriendly vehicles who will hep out. We honestly don’t have many participants crossing the line at the same time, so this shouldn’t be a big problem.
